Netflix, on the other hand, has storytelling in its bloodstream. But as the streaming giant faces saturation and a more experience-hungry audience, it’s looking beyond episodic binge culture toward formats that foster ongoing engagement.

From a business perspective, this partnership also taps into a booming trend. According to a 2025 Edison Research report, video podcasts are consumed by 57% of Gen Z listeners, who see them as more authentic and “snackable” than traditional shows. Brands too, are taking note. Advertisers now allocate over $2 billion annually to podcast ad spends, much of it directed at platforms experimenting with visual formats.

By merging narrative and nuance, Netflix and Spotify are positioning themselves not as competitors, but co-authors of the next entertainment frontier—one where stories are both seen and heard.

In essence, this is not just a media move. It’s the streaming industry’s next big experiment in how humans connect—with creators, with characters, and with culture itself.
